It's been a day since the paycheck from the inn came in, and Magne is still reeling from the sheer amount that she'd gotten. It was more money than she'd ever had in her life all at once. Her first instinct, to squirrel all of it away except for what she needed to use for necessities, is tested when she remembers the last time she'd talked with Jeff and learned about his need for a proper instrument.
Some shopping has been done on her own time, behind his back with the intention of making sure that she could actually keep the promise that she was now about to make.
"Hey there, sweet thing," she greets him as she slides onto the stool next to him. In two fingers, she has a folded over piece of paper, which she offers to him with a small smirk.
It's a receipt, made out to her with the 300 brass down payment on a commission.
Jeff does a little half-spin on his stool to face Magne, already a little
loopy on booze and love potion (more love potion than booze, honestly. That
shit gets in everything!) when he reaches for the paper.
"Heeeey, Sis!"
Perhaps surprising to anyone who's met Jeff and clocked his general... lack
of focus, love of intoxication, self destructive tendencies, and all-around
Jeffness, he's actually pretty thrifty and resourceful! You don't survive
LA as a starving artist without picking up some tricks, and he's perfected
the art of getting by with very little.
Which is to say he's been squirreling away just about every piece of brass
that's come his way just for this occasion.
So you'd think, when looks over the receipt, Jeff will immediately realize
that this is it, this is the moment he's been working towards and waiting
for since his arrival here. She's actually gone and done it!!
"Holy shit..."
His eyes light up in stunned excitement and barely contained joy.
"You're getting a guitar!" Good for Magne! He just wishes--
Sober is the rarer way to see Jeff anyway, from what she's seen, so she's not surprised to find him off-kilter. But she also knows that he's very much like her and her people, so she knew she could trust that he would have scrounged enough by now to make up the rest of the Brass for this endeavor.
She just waits for him to really parse what she's given him, then smiles and shakes him just a little bit on his stool.
He grins and takes a moment to just enjoy the hug. "I'm gonna play you so many things, you're gonna get sick of it."
Then, he pulls away so he can look Magne in the face as he says, sincerely, "Thanks. This really... It means a lot to me. I've been, um. Feeling really, you know... incomplete, without one."
She's already decided it, this is her boy, she's gonna squeeze him.
When he looks back at her like that, so earnestly grateful, she smiles back at him, patting his cheek then just leaving her hand there. "Trust me hun, I get it. I'm never gonna get back the thing that was an extension of me and it hurts more than I can even really say, so if I can help fix that for you then that's time and money well spent, for me."
Guitar Acquisition Time

WAIT.
He beams at her.
"We're getting a guitar?!"

"You're getting a guitar. I'm just enabling you."

"Holy shit!"
He throws his arms around Magne, hugging her as tightly as his skinny body will allow.

"You'll have to play me something later," she teases.
